The Learning Center at Tumbleweed Center for Youth DevelopmentTumbleweed’s Learning Center is a resource center that provides educational/vocational assistance, job development, referral and enhanced educational services for clients in Tumbleweed programs and in the Phoenix Community. Programs include: Homeless Youth Intervention Project (HYIP), Family Builders, Supported Transitional Apartments, Resources, and Training (START), and Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Tumbleweed Regional High School offers education for a High School Diploma. In addition, Tumbleweed offers General Education Equivalent Diploma (GED) preparation classes. The Center provides computer and internet access for educational and job search purposes


Workforce Investment Act (WIA):

Workforce Investment Act at Tumbleweed Center for Youth DevelopmentProvides job and educational services for individuals ages 14-21.

Career, and basic skills (TABE) assessments are used in helping youth identify strengths. Career Specialists encourage youth to excel in their educational and career goals by providing paid internships, job training, and financial support for these endeavors including college! Eligibility requirements include: social security card, birth certificate and/or state identification and being without a permanent place to call home.



Supported Transitional Apartments, Resources, and Training (START):

START Program at Tumbleweed Center for Youth DevelopmentPopulation served: up to 9 youth, ages 18 to 22 and accompanying babies/toddlers.

Provides housing subsidy and assistance to homeless youth. The program helps develop independent living skills, subsidizes rent and helps obtain other resources. Youth find their own apartments, in a location convenient to their place of employment.


GED at Tumbleweed center For Youth Development in Phoenix, ArizonaGeneral Education Equivalency Diploma (GED) Preparation classes:

A basic skills assessment (TABE) is used to provide information regarding strengths and weaknesses of the interested participant’s academic level. This information is then used to formulate an educational plan to help earn a GED. Participants will also be offered to take a GED Preparation exam to give the individual an estimate of how well they will do on the GED.


Tumbleweed Regional High School at Tumbleweed Center for Youth Development in Phoenix, ArizonaTumbleweed Regional High School

Tumbleweed is an accredited Arizona State High School. Individuals have the opportunity to earn high school credit or their diploma in a non-traditional classroom setting through the Maricopa County Regional School District.
